Life Long Learning

CCC members believe in the value of education at any age. We are a vibrant and inquisitive congregation, open to a deeper understanding of matters of the body, mind and spirit.

Between services on Sunday mornings we are often in conversation, focused on a particular book or idea.

Throughout the year we hold periodic seminars and workshops on topics intended to enrich us spiritually as individuals and as a community. We are led in these educational experiences by our own minister as well as by guest lecturers.

Recent and ongoing programs include Sacred Conversations on Race; Movies and Theology; Aging Gracefully; and Rosen Body Movement

Upcoming Workshop:

On Saturday October 13, 2012, internationally acclaimed theologian Matthew Fox will present a workshop entitled Mystics: Pioneers of Consciousness. Here is a brief description of the workshop:

Human consciousness needs to expand if we are to survive as a species.  Carl Jung says that it is to the mystics that we owe what is best in humanity and that mystics bring creativity to religion itself. When an aging Albert Einstein was asked if he had any regrets, he replied “I wish I had read more of the mystics earlier in my life.” In this workshop, Matthew Fox will share some teachings from Western mystics and prophets that can assist us to elicit the mystic and prophet in us all.  Hildegard of Bingen along with many other mystics will be featured.

The workshop will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The cost will be $15 – $25 sliding scale at the door. No pre-registration is required.

Matthew will be signing copies of his new book entitled Christian Mystics: 365 Readings and Meditations.
